Windy and cold this week

Winds have calmed down for now, but yesterday they were howling like crazy, and we even got a bit of rain and hail early in the morning. Winter is now finally here, and we've tgot real cold temperatures to prove it. Currently it's already down to a freezing 28 degrees! I guess more rain could be coming our way this weekend but Christmas should be dry, just a bit cool. My friends down in Florida will be having an 80 degree Christmas, wow that sounds nice. My holiday plans for this year are, that I don't have any. I was going to go visit my sister in Bakersfield but she had to stick with tradition and leave town as she always does to go visit the same old person she always does rather than allow me to come visit her for the weekend! Oh well, I'll be spending Friday December 25, 2009 with the Christmas music going and chatting with the most awesome and coolest of my friends. I can't believe it'll be nearly time to look back on not only the year but also the decade in just a few days. So everyone have an awesome Christmas and a safe holiday, whatever your plans are.

It's amazing to think that it was this day December 17, 2008, just last year when our entire local area was literally snowed in for a day as we got a rather rare treat of heavy snow on the valley flor here thanks to a cold front that came through. We had in some places anywhere from 7-10 inches of snow and that's very rare for us here in the desert. Roads were closed and people in Los Angeles coming back here could not get up the hill due to the snow and closed roads as a result. The weather today by contrast is quite nice with temperatures in the 50's to mid 70's down in the LA basin. Low's are chilly in the upper 20's to the 30's. Winter arrives in about 4 days. Wow. The next space shuttle launch will be STS-130 now scheduled for February 6 at 1:39 AM Pacific Standard time. This means it will be a night launch, which is always cool. And that's roughly what's going on here. Time for me to go back to chatting with my awesome and lovely girlfriend.

the big news of today is the first winter storm of this season has arrived in Southern California, and it's a fairly cold one. The temperature at my location here in Lancaster is 41 degrees, and we currently have light rain with winds gusting to 29MPH. We've had rain off and on for much of the day today, and I guess it's gonna continue through tonight. Snow levels are fairly low as well at about 4,000 feet elevation. This low snow level is why I'm still here and not visiting my sister in Bakersfield, as I'd originally hoped to do. I was going to go down there Friday, December 4, but that didn't happen. I'm still planning to go visit her, I'm just waiting for a break in the weather, which I'm hoping to get perhaps on Wednesday. When I finally do go down there, I'm planning on staying there for about a week or there abouts. As far as the weather goes, it appears that several storms may be lined up to give us a fair bit of precipitation over the next several days. We could be in for a wet rainy season, we'll have to wait and see. Hopefully there won't bee too much damage or injury caused by flooding and mud slides in recently burned areas. As this is the first significant storm of the season, everyone needs to be reminded to be careful out there, especially if driving.
